Archiving Policy and Repository Policy
REPOSITORY POLICY
Journal of Indonesian Medical Laboratory and Science (JoIMedLabS)
1. Copyright and Licensing
Authors who publish with JoIMedLabS retain copyright and full publishing rights to their work. All articles are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). This license permits anyone to copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially, provided appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and the source, and any derivative works are distributed under the same license.
2. Self-Archiving Policy (Green Open Access)
JoIMedLabS strongly supports the practice of self-archiving. Authors are encouraged to deposit all versions of their work in institutional or subject-based repositories, as well as on personal websites or academic social networks.
The following versions may be archived without any embargo period:
- Pre-print (the original version before peer review)
- Post-print (the accepted version after peer review)
- Publisher's version/PDF (the final published version formatted by the journal)
3. Benefits of Self-Archiving
Depositing articles in repositories increases the visibility, usage, and impact of published work. It accelerates the exchange of knowledge and ensures that research reaches the widest possible audience.
4. Where to Deposit?
Authors may deposit their work in any repository or platform of their choice, including but not limited to:
- National repositories and indexing databases (e.g., Garuda, SINTA)
- International search engines and discovery platforms (e.g., Google Scholar, Dimensions)
ARCHIVING POLICY
JoIMedLabS is committed to the long-term preservation of its published content. To ensure that all articles remain accessible and usable for future generations—regardless of changes in technology or the status of the association—the journal utilizes multiple independent archiving networks complemented by local backup systems.
1. Local Archiving (Primary Backup)
In addition to international preservation networks, JoIMedLabS performs local archiving using a dedicated computer hard drive storage system. The publisher regularly backs up all journal content, including articles, metadata, and supplementary files, to secure physical storage media. This ensures that the editorial team maintains direct control over a complete copy of the journal's archive and can quickly restore access in the event of technical failures or server issues.
2. LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
JoIMedLabS participates in the LOCKSS system. This network allows participating libraries around the world to collect and preserve copies of the journal's content in their own archival storage. This distributed approach ensures that a permanent archive of the journal is maintained, even if the primary journal website or the association's servers become unavailable.
3. CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS)
JoIMedLabS is a member of the CLOCKSS archive. CLOCKSS is a trusted, "dark archive" managed by a global consortium of leading academic libraries and publishers. If the journal ceases operations, or if the association is no longer able to maintain the content, CLOCKSS will "trigger" the archive and make all preserved content freely available to the public, ensuring that vital research is never lost.
4. PKP PN (PKP Preservation Network)
JoIMedLabS utilizes the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN). This service, provided by the Public Knowledge Project (the developer of Open Journal Systems), automatically preserves the journal's content as a secondary backup. The PKP PN provides an additional layer of security by archiving the journal's articles independently from the association's local server.
5. National and International Indexing Databases (Long-Term Discovery)
As a journal indexed in GARUDA (Garba Rujukan Digital), SINTA (Science and Technology Index), Google Scholar, and Dimensions, the metadata of all articles is harvested and stored within these national and international platforms. While these are primarily discovery tools, they also serve as an additional layer of redundancy by holding metadata records, which helps maintain the discoverability of the research even if the primary journal site faces technical issues.
6. Guarantee of Accessibility
Through the combination of:
- Local archiving (hard drive storage system)
- Distributed archiving (LOCKSS)
- Dark archiving (CLOCKSS)
- Network preservation (PKP PN)
- National and international indexing (Garuda, SINTA, Google Scholar, Dimensions)
JoIMedLabS guarantees that its scholarly output is preserved against the risk of data loss, institutional changes, or technological failure, and will remain accessible to the academic community in the long term.
Note: As a journal published by an association, JoIMedLabS encourages authors to deposit their work in their own institutional repositories. The association maintains local backups and utilizes international preservation networks to ensure long-term access to all published content.
